MUSICAL EXCELLENCE IN THE WAVENEY VALLEY
Great fun for local musicians
This unique orchestra, serving the communities of South Norfolk and mid-Suffolk, is based in the village of Pulham Market. It was founded in 1983 by Dr Pat Rawlence and current Musical Director Margery Baker to give local players, under the direction of a professional conductor, an opportunity to enjoy music together while exploring a varied orchestral repertoire.
Of particular strength is the support and guidance given to inexperienced players. Musical Director, Margery Baker, has a strong background and interest in musical education at all ages.
Very successful collaborative ventures have been undertaken in the recent past with members of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and with The Wymondham Youth Orchestra. The PVO is a member of MAKING MUSIC (the National Federation of Music Societies). A year with composer-in-residence TOM ARMSTRONG and in partnership with the Wymondham Youth Orchestra was funded by Making Music... a highly successful venture resulting in a composition called 'BOUNCE'. The Pulham Orchestra works also with schools and other societies. It has recently completed a two year collaboration with members of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields. (Further details)
