PVO Workshop Weekends - an opportunity to explore more challenging works.
The biennial weekend workshop brings together players of different
ages and experience - professional and amateur players - under the
guidance of specialist tutors and the baton of a guest conductor
resulting in fine performances of major works.
Pulham Market is situated 15 miles south of Norwich off the A140 Ipswich Road beyond Long Stratton.

Our popular and amazing weekend workshop took place again in various venues in Pulham Market. We were pleased to welcome back Geoffrey Barker as conductor.
Our guest conductor and director on this occasion Geoffrey Barker. The main work was Dvorak's Symphony 6 in D Op 60, and we also played Delius's La Calinda from his opera Koanga, as well as works by Corelli, Strauss and Gounod.

Impressions of the Workshop Weekend and Concert:
from Elliot Bryant, aged 17, a gifted violinist:" The music was easily playable I found, although we could have done a better job with a little more time. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and it made a good change to school work. The orchestra is really good, many great players who, although they had other jobs and roles, played very much like professionals. The weekend was a good mix of sectionals and full orchestra sessions, which also made it enjoyable."

The workshop started in Pulham Market at 10.00 am on Friday Oct 31st and concluded there with a performance of the works studied. The main work in this (our eleventh) workshop was Dvorak’s Symphony 6 in D Op 60.
There were opportunities to study Suppé’s overture “Pique Dame” or Delius’s La Calinda from his opera Koanga as well as individual works for string orchestra, wind, brass and percussion ensembles.

A large audience enjoyed a wonderful concert on the Sunday Evening which ably demonstrated the hard work and high standard of musicianship achieved by members of the orchestra throughout the weekend. The Concert allowed members to show their skills both within instrumental sections and as a whole orchestra.
